Owner: Hercules, Incorporated In order to facilitate a property transfer of a 138-acre chemical manufacturing facility, the owner, Hercules Incorporated, contracted Terra to demolish the remaining 37 buildings on site. The pre-demolition activities included extensive analysis of chemical processes such as product in lines, special safety and hot work proceduring, investment recovery, permitting, hazardous waste abatement, ACM abatement, and traffic control procedures. Prior to demolition activities, the majority of the site needed to be cleaned and grubbed in order to safely access the buildings and miles of pipeline racks. Terra personnel working in Level B protection went through the entire site performing 1st line breaks in order to remove all hazardous and explosive materials from process piping systems. Demolition of the facility started with three JD 450 CLC Excavator equipped with shears and grapplers. Structures demolished included wastewater treatment plants, 4-story reinforced concrete reactor buildings, warehouses, boiler houses, and a 235’ 1,000,000 gallon water tower. The 6-month project produced 2,720 tons of steel, $85,000 of salvable equipment, 70 tons of miscellaneous metals, and 290 tons of construction and demolition debris. After completion of all demolition work, the property was sold to a developer. |
