Owner: Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories Terra was contracted to perform the complete demolition service on the 826,000 square foot, 3-story penicillin manufacturing and distribution facility. This project presented a unique challenge as a majority of the facility required being decontaminated/neutralized of penicillin residuals prior to off-site disposal. Terra worked closely with the Wyeth-Ayerst Safety personnel who conducted full samplings of each area within the facility during the decontamination phase. Following the successful decontamination/neutralization of the entire facility, Terra proceeded to provide investment recovery services for all excess manufacturing lines and process equipment, which resulted in a cost savings of over $425,000 for the facility closure. Demolition of the entire facility generated over 3,000 tons of steel, 115 tons of non-ferrous metals, and 60,000 tons of concrete, which was recycled on site with Terra’s crushing and recycling plant. |
